ISO STANDARDS
Globally recognised. Setting the standard.
WHAT ARE ISO STANDARDS?
When it comes to operating a business effectively, many organisations turn to the internationally recognised ISO standards. They aren’t a law or Government regulation, but rather a guide to best practice. Internationally determined and set out by experts, ISO standards are used by businesses who want to do better, achieve more, and be recognised as being able to deliver products and services that meet quality, environmental, and safety expectations.
These standards cover all aspects of industry, from the best way to structure the management of a company to how to develop and manage your manufacturing standards. Becoming ISO certified in the standards relevant to your business gives consumers and other stakeholders confidence in your products and services. More than that, though, it serves as a set of guiding principles to ensure your organisation operates effectively.
Below are some of the management system standards where our ISO standards experts can help your organisation become certified for.

WHAT IS A MANAGEMENT SYSTEM?
Getting certified doesn’t need to be complicated — or custom-built from scratch.
At Inertia Consulting, we use systems that are already built, tested, and working across real businesses — so you’re not starting from zero. Our consultants have sat on your side of the table, know what compliance actually looks like in practice, and bring just the right mix of structure and flexibility to get you across the line.
Most clients come to us feeling stuck — overwhelmed by standards, unsure where to start, or tangled in a half-built system pieced together from Google and good intentions. They’re frustrated, fed up, and ready to throw in the towel.
That’s where we step in. We take the stress out of the process, cut through the noise, and guide you toward certification using practical tools and proven methods. And if your project genuinely calls for a bespoke build, we’ll scope it properly — with the right budget, the right commitment, and the right outcomes in mind.
THE STANDARDS WE WORK WITH

Your trusted risk & compliance experts
ISO 9001 – QUALITY MANAGEMENT SYSTEM (QMS)
When talking about quality management, ISO 9001 is the standard that you will be aiming for. ISO 9001 was updated in 2015 and follows Annexure SL, the high-level structure for all modern ISO standards. It can be used by any organisation, large or small, regardless of its field of activity. In fact, there are over one million companies and organisations in over 170 countries certified to ISO 9001.
The ISO 9001 standard is based on a number of quality management principles including a strong customer focus, the motivation and implication of top management, the process approach, and continual improvement. Using ISO 9001 helps ensure that customers get consistent, good-quality products and services, which in turn brings many business benefits.
Our ISO standards experts will help your business to identify the process for setting up your ISO 9001 management system, including your long-term business strategy, developing your objectives and KPIs, ensuring processes are in place to measure and deliver quality products and services, and meeting customer satisfaction to help you achieve and build business success.

ISO 14001 – ENVIRONMENTAL MANAGEMENT SYSTEM (EMS)
ISO 14001 deals with environmental management systems against which organisations can be certified. In recent years, it has become more and more important for organisations to both understand and limit their impact on the environment. There are more than 300,000 certifications to ISO 14001 in 171 countries around the world. With all major countries around the globe striving to meet certain quotas with regard to carbon emissions and environmental impacts, it is incumbent on industry to do the same.
ISO 14001 maps out a framework that a company or organisation can follow to set up effective environmental management. Designed for any type of organisation, regardless of its activity or sector, it can provide assurance to company management and employees as well as external stakeholders that environmental impact is being measured and improved.
Contact our ISO standards experts today to help you identify and manage the process through your business that will help you achieve ISO 14001 certification and demonstrate your commitment to improving the environment.
ISO 45001 – OCCUPATIONAL HEALTH AND SAFETY MANAGEMENT SYSTEM (OHSMS)
In 2020, 194 people were fatally injured at work. While some laws were in place to trial industrial manslaughter, these fell short of the mark. In response to recommendations made in the 2018 Boland Review, Work Health and Safety laws, along with the Federal Senate Inquiry on Industrial Deaths, introduced the Industrial Manslaughter Bill by all states and territories (with the exception of Tasmania). The Amendment Bill outlines that where there is gross deviation from the reasonable standard of care from a PCBU that endangers the lives of their workers, there will be severe penalties. The penalties that have been applied include 20-25 years imprisonment for an individual (CEO, Executives, etc.), while corporations may face fines of between $10Mil and $20Mil.
ISO 45001 crosses geographic, political, economic, commercial, and social boundaries, providing you as an organisation a single point of reference for managing your occupational health and safety management needs. ISO 45001 is designed to prevent work-related injury and illnesses and to provide safe and healthy workplaces, complying with other regulatory frameworks and assisting your organisation to identify and control risks within your workplace.
In the ideal world, organisations would experience no accidents or injuries. That’s the world we’re striving for when our ISO standards experts help you obtain ISO 45001 certification.

ISO 27001 – INFORMATION SECURITY MANAGEMENT SYSTEM (ISMS)
This international standard deals with information security management systems. In 2013 ISO27001 was updated and has been gaining popularity ever since. This was particularly relevant during the COVID-19 pandemic where working from home became the new norm. Organisations now needed to demonstrate that the systems they had in place are capable of warding off cyber-attacks and more importantly protecting client information from such attacks.
With cyber-security an ever-present threat, it is vital for all businesses to understand and implement systems to control sensitive and customer information. ISO 27001 enables organisations of any kind to manage the security of assets such as financial information, intellectual property, employee details or information entrusted by third parties. This certification drastically increases consumer confidence that your organisation is capable of and will keep their private information and data secure.
Our ISO standards experts can offer you the support and assistance needed to achieve ISO Standard certification to ISO 27001.
INTEGRATED MANAGEMENT SYSTEM (IMS)
The IMS brings together your QMS, EMS and OHSMS in one framework that features many common components. This is not only a more cost-effective way of implementing systems than doing them individually, but it also provides you greater market penetrations by being triple certified. Auditing is also made easier with less disruption to operations and alignment of the three standards.
Inertia Consulting are the specialists you can rely on for all your ISO Standards certification needs. Whether it’s full accreditation or you simply want to improve the way you operate, our ISO standards experts are here to help.
